My work has traditionally focused on understanding the physical environment of urban and suburban spaces through different experiences. The work in Reflective Cartography moves inward as an outlet; an outlet for emotions, an outlet for stress, an outlet for hopes, dreams and aspirations, an outlet for expectations and realizations. It is a meditative series in line with the use of labyrinths as walking paths for personal reflection and meditative contemplation. Feeling overwhelmed is a modern day certainty with the state of the world’s political and economic climates being fueled by the 24 hour news cycles constant need for ad sales, Reflective Cartography explores this feeling and the attempt to navigate the noxious atmosphere of contemporary culture and allow space for personal reflection through texturally abstract imagery overlaid with marks reminiscent of cartographic line work.
